Why Trafficking Is Often Relational | The Movement EP18

In this episode of The Movement, social worker and anti-trafficking practitioner Shani Bacy explains relational trauma: trauma that happens at the hands of another person inside a trust-based relationship. She connects that definition directly to trafficking dynamics, where the trafficker is often a parent, caregiver, partner, or someone the person believed cared about them. Shani also shares her pathway into anti-trafficking work and what she learned across frontline care, court advocacy, and system-level training — including why human connection and consistency matter in both support and long-term healing.
